Gaye Marshall Fowler, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at her home. Born December 30, 1934, in Granite Falls, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Ernest and Mary Orilla Turnmyre Marshall and the widow of Donald Flay Fowler.
Gaye was a 1953 graduate of Granite Falls High School and a 1955 graduate of Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Salisbury, NC. She served as the Head Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Spartanburg General Hospital before transitioning to industrial nursing and retiring from both Abbott Laboratories and Owens-Corning Fiberglass.
A devoted member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church, Gaye attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class and loved participating in the church choir. Throughout her years of membership, she faithfully served on many councils and committees.
Two of Gaye’s favorite pastimes were digging in her flower beds as well as feeding and watching birds, especially her much loved hummingbirds! Spending time with family was Gaye’s most favorite thing in the world. She made sure that every time the family was together it was like a holiday: laughing, eating, hugging and sharing stories.
Surviving are her adoring children, Jeffrey and Joyce Fowler, Scott and Rená Fowler, Donna Lynne and James Mabry, and Mitchell and Julie Fowler; her grandchildren, Rand, Tori, Jordan, Marshall, Sam, Clay, Joshua, Will, Pam and Heath; a great-grandson, Jacob Briggs; her sister, Audrey Marshall Heivly and husband Mike; and a host of cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, June 22, 2018, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC, 29307. A service honoring her life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, by The Rev. Scott S. Gilmer. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
