Louisa Tyler Obituary

Elizabeth Louisa Coker Tyler, 97, died Monday, June 24, 2019, in McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

Funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, will be 11 AM Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Jay Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Tyler’s family will receive friends from 10 AM in the church until time for the service.

Mrs. Tyler was the widow of Wade Hampton Tyler, who predeceased her on March 25, 1990. She was the daughter of the late Millie Jane “Janie” Kirby Coker and Shadred Wanie Coker of the Hebron-Moore’s Crossroads Community. Born on September 28, 1921, she was the Valedictorian of her 1938 graduating class of the old Hebron High School of the Gowdy Community. In 1940 Mrs. Tyler received a degree in Commercial Science from Lander College of Greenwood. She worked for the law firm of W.E. Jenkinson, II for six years and retired from USDA, Farmers Home Administration District Office in Florence after 26 years of service. In 1973 she was voted by the USDA State Office in Columbia, SC, as “Outstanding County Office Clerk”. Mrs. Tyler was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary for 41 years. Lovingly called “Iza” by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, she was the center of their family and was beloved by all who knew her.

Surviving Mrs. Tyler are: 2 daughters, Betty Jean (Kenneth) Lee and Peggy (Otto) Williamson; 4 grandchildren, Cindy (Steve) Hyatt, Brad Williamson, Gina (Wyman) Taylor, and Beth (Lynn) Cox; 10 great grandchildren, Steven Hyatt, Krysta Hyatt, Abbey Johnson, Anna Taylor, Ken Taylor, Meg Johnson, Jordan Boeddeker, Lee Johnson, Jessica Long and Jamie Prosser; 10 great great grandchildren, Rebecca Hyatt, Colton James, Michael Evans, Elizabeth Evans, Cami Evans, Tyler Prosser, Kinsley Prosser, Brayden James, Cathryn Hyatt and Bailey Miles; a special friend like family, Chris Bledsole; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Robin Williamson Long, 5 brothers, Marion, Culton, Ollie, Wofford, and Mack Ira Coker, and 4 sisters, Madeline Lyerly, Cecile Young, Ola Mae Welch, and Myrtle Cook. Mrs. Tyler’s family would like to thank the staff at Southland Health Care Center for their loving care of “Iza”.
