Alyene Cornelia Gelzer Wright, 102, of Summerville and formerly of James Island, widow of Thomas Johnson "T.J." Wright Jr. died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Summerville.
Mrs. Wright was born in New Hope, South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late George Edward and Caroline Eliza Harvey Gelzer. Mrs. Wright was a Charter member of Ashley River Baptist Church, Pinecrest Baptist Church and Fort Johnson Baptist Church, where she served in various offices in each of these churches. She was a member of Harborview Presbyterian Church, Order of Easter Star- Azalea Chapter 192- where she was former Worthy Matron, Fort Johnson Civic Club and the Fort Johnson Garden Club. She had been a resident of The Village of Summerville for the past twelve years. Mrs. Wright was also an accomplished seamstress, who made many beautiful items for her family and friends. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, who adored her family.
Mrs. Wright is survived by a son, Thomas Johnson Wright III and wife Peggy of Dorchester; three daughters DeWees Keller and husband Buddy of Cameron, Mary DeWitt of Summerville, and Becky Linnville of James Island; two sisters Mary Glenn Rhodes of Folly Beach and Helen Robbins of Charleston; twelve grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The family of Mrs. Wright will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1st at James A. McAlister Funeral Home- 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. A funeral service for Mrs. Wright will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 2nd at James A. McAlister Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Cathy Jenkins, Lisa DeGrow, William Adam "Bill" Keller IV, Bartow "Bart" Keller, Walter Linnville, and Thomas J. "Tom" Wright IV.
