Ann Bears Penny

A memorial service for Ann Beers Penny, 65, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, York. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Penny died Friday, August 2, 2013. Born in Jefferson City, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Seymour James Beers and Dorothy Rosemary Dygert. Mrs. Penny graduated from Winthrop College, Class of 1969 with a degree in Biology. She was a dental hygienist in Rock Hill for 37 years. Mrs. Penny was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church during her childhood and later became a member of First Presbyterian Church in York. Mrs. Penny was also a member of the church choir, the York County Choral Society, the Yorkville Artist Guild and the Tri Beta Honorary Sorority.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Robert E. Penny of York; daughter, Jennifer Blackwell (Paul) of York; son, David Turner of Columbia; sisters, Wendy Beers of Rock Hill and Georgianna “Georgie” Beers of Camden; grandchildren, Tripp and Taylor Blackwell of York, Kaitlin Rentz-Epps of Chatsworth, Ga.; nieces, Deirdre Beers of Rock Hill and Carol Anna Davis of Dillon, Colo.; and a great-nephew, Matthew “Matt” Beers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Matthew McKenzie Rentz.
