Betty Caulder Obituary

Ms. Betty Brown Caulder, age 85, died Sunday, October 25 after a sudden illness. Born January 10, 1935 in Rockingham, NC she was a daughter of the late William Charlie “Willie” and Bertha Odom Brown. She attended Zoar High School and was a graduate of Betty Steven’s College of Cosmetology. Betty was the retired owner and operator of DaMond Beauty Salon. Betty loved all of her costumers and enjoyed mentoring and helping young hair stylists begin their careers. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and a faithful choir member for many years. Betty especially enjoyed singing with her son Phillip and traveling with the Senior Saints.

Betty was a jolly, mischievous person who loved to play pranks on people. She enjoyed dressing up at Halloween and you never knew what to expect when you came trick-or-treating. She would cook grits, ham, gravy and homemade biscuits for her family every Halloween. It soon became a neighborhood tradition. The last time she was able to cook the biscuits she made 275. Many kids would come by and drop their candy buckets and head straight for the biscuits.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Caston “PC” Caulder and special companion of 30 plus years, Thomas H. (TH) Davis; one brother, Charles Brown and 4 sisters, Leona Ferguson, Ila Hines, Lorene Watson and Iva Brock; also one stepdaughter Pat Caulder Thompson.

Betty is survived by a son Phillip (Yetive) Caulder Jr., 2 daughters, Sissy (Harold) Adams and Penny (Cotton) Dixon all of Chesterfield, SC; one stepdaughter Peggy (Rev. Howard) Harding of Laurinburg, NC, daughter of the heart, Tillie (Richard) Scott of Patrick, SC, son of the heart Tommy (Shirley) Davis of Ruby, SC; 2 brothers Tony W. (Bonnie) Brown and Bobby R. (Jan) Brown of Chesterfield, SC; 2 sisters Trena Curtis of Chesterfield, SC and Cammie (Jack) Chinery of Myrtle Beach, SC; 5 grandchildren, Neil (Michele) Adams of Chesterfield, SC, Haley (Chris) Kelly and Richie (Kimberly) Dixon all of Camden, SC, Cas (Sydney) Caulder of Patrick, SC and Calyn (Nathan) Coyle of Chesterfield, SC; also 7 great grandchildren Carson and Bryce Adams, Emma Lynn and Lawson Caulder, Watson and Mason Coyle and Piper Kelly.

Memorials made be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 293 Zoar Road, Chesterfield, SC or Hospice of Chesterfield County Foundation, PO Box 293, Chesterfield, SC.
