Carol Wood Traini, 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Born in Cheraw, she was a daughter of the late Melvin B. and Ethel White Wood.
Carol was a cherished member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She had a passion for traveling, especially enjoying cruises to tropical destinations whenever possible. Throughout her working years, she found joy in her role as a waitress at the beach, where she delighted in meeting new people and engaging in heartfelt conversations. In her earlier years, she cared for many children in Chesterfield working in numerous daycares and operating her own for a short period.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: daughters, Jackie (Lorne) Brooks of Cheraw, SC, Ashley (Bryan) Harper of Chesterfield, SC, Melanie Marsh of Lawrenceville, GA, and her son Brooks (Alicia) Marsh of Hillsboro, KS. Carol also leaves behind her sisters Rachel Gaskins, Mary (Rev. Donald) Wallace, Lynn Davidson—all of Chesterfield, SC—and Joyce Davis of Bennettsville, SC, along with her sister-in-law Joyce Wood of Chesterfield, SC and a special sister at heart, Debbie Lang. Her devotion extended to her grandchildren Jacob, Jenna, Dawson, Luke, Elleanor, Arden, and soon to be bundle of joy, Georgia, numerous close cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as her two beloved dogs, Bruiser and Zinchi "Z."
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Ethel Mae Wood; her brothers, J.B. Wood and Bill Wood; brother-in-laws, Todd Davidson, Johnnie Gaskins, Jr. and her sister-in-law, Joyce Wood.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pine Grove Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM to celebrate Carol’s life and enduring spirit.
Memorials may be made to Chesterfield County Animal Shelter, 436 Goodale Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
The family would like to thank Danielle Johnson of CareSouth for her knowledge and continued care over the last several years, as well as many of the staff at McLeod Health-Cheraw for their dedication and diligent work in the last week.
