David Ruple Hutto, Sr.

David Ruple Hutto, Sr., 78, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away on June 23, 2026. He was the husband of Ann Boyce Hutto.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28th, 2026 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, SC with Reverend Albert Shuler officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery and the Good Shephard's Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at Duke's Harley Funeral Home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mark Hutto, Jay Hutto, Allen Hutto, Robbie Elliott, Greg Elliott, John Lawton, Rusty Harter, and Dale Theiling. Honorary pallbearers are the "dental brigade": Gene Atkinson, Spencer Dixon, John Rheney, Omar Ansari, Mona Ellis, and Sam Hazel.

David was born in Orangeburg, SC, a son of the late Azel James Hutto, Sr. and Mary Louise Harley Hutto. David lived a life defined by service, craftsmanship, leadership, and an unwavering love for the natural world. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy and purpose in nature and shared that appreciation with everyone around him. He taught his children to recognize the beauty in all living things, to be resourceful and self-sufficient, and to embrace the countless opportunities life offers. Through his example, he instilled values of hard work, curiosity, respect, and stewardship that will continue to guide future generations.

David was a respected dentist who dedicated his professional career to caring for the people of Orangeburg. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Clemson University and received his Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession. David served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of St. Paul's UMC, Kiwanis International, as well as Scout Master for Troop 45 and Pack 90.

David's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he served, the lives he touched, and the lessons he passed on. He will be remembered for his generosity, integrity, sense of adventure, and the profound love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Suzann Hutto Weathers (Robbie), Ashley Hutto Wolfe (Brandon), and David Ruple Hutto, Jr. (Mollye); and grandchildren, Harley Weathers, Josie Weathers, James Wolfe, and David "Ruple" Hutto, III.
