Evelyn Martin Obituary

Evelyn Martin, of Pineville went home to be with her Lord on Saturday July 30, 2022.

Born April 12, 1931 in Spencer, she was the daughter to the late William and Daisy Kersey Hickman. 

After moving to Pineville, she graduated from Pineville High School in 1948, Evelyn worked at the Pine Theater, and on air at WWYO as Eve Hicks, She was a reporter for the Raleigh Register and Independent Herald. Evelyn was the first female member of the Pineville Town Council, and worked for the Wyoming County Circuit Court  for over 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Pineville Methodist Church, Evelyn was also a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi, which she was involved with for over 60 years. 

She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years Jack Martin, her children Kathy Smallwood of Louisville Ky, Don Martin (Kathy) of Beckley, Bill Martin (Geneva) of Pineville, David Martin of Greenwood SC, Sarah Martin (Cindy) of Daniels, and Leigh Ann Lumbo (Danny) of Saulsville. 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. A host of countless family, and friends. 

The family would like to thank the staff of four north at Raleigh General, and the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their love and care given to Evelyn.

Following her service she will be laid to rest at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
