Graveside services for Howard DuBose Brown, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Fran Elrod will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at the home of Edwin and Kathy Boyd, 154 Erwin Rd.

Mr. Brown died Friday, August 16, 2013. Born in Florence, SC, he was a son of the late Heyward DuBose and Annie Lea DuBose Brown.
Howard was a retired partner with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

He loved his family and spending time on the farm. He was most comfortable outdoors but also enjoyed baking and generously giving his pies and cookies to family and friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Beth Cox Brown; youngest son, Walter Alexander Brown; and brother-in-law, William P. Dawkins. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Howard D. "Bo" and Lucy Brown, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Edwin Boyd; daughter-in-law, Debbie Brown (Richard) Wynne; sister, Anne Brown Dawkins; brother and sister-in-law, Walter J. and Judy Brown.
Howard was known as "Da" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was proud of each one of them; grandchildren, D Brown (Amber), Lauren Brown Bowen (John), Alex Brown (Megan), Benton Boyd and Weldon Boyd; and great-grandchildren, Heyward and Laurie Beth Brown, Anna, Katherine and Jack Bowen. He is also survived by his nephew, Bill Dawkins and family; and his very special friend, Jackie Segars, who has been a wonderful addition to the family for the last 13 years.

Thanks to Agape Hospice, Terre, Elaine and the aides who took such good care of both Howard and the family through this difficult time. A special thanks to Howard's compassionate caregivers, Evelyn, Arlene, Natasha, Frances and Doris. The family is forever grateful to all of these caring women.
