Mrs. Katherine Sullivan Jones, 92, of Lancaster, widow of James Craig Jones, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Springs Memorial Hospital.

Katherine was born July 7, 1922 in Lancaster. She was the last of eight children born to the late James Oscar Sullivan and Margaret Josephine Ormand Sullivan. She graduated from Buford High School at the age of 16. She served with the Home Guard during World War II. After beginning her career with Springs, she was one of the first women to attend Clemson. This is when she became an avid Clemson football fan.

Katherine continued to work for Springs' Customer Service with her career spanning over 35 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught 4th grade Sunday School class for over 20 years. Katherine loved shopping and traveling, having done so all over the United States as well as Europe and Canada. She was an excellent seamstress. She loved Clemson football games and tailgating. Most importantly was Katherine's love for her family, and her brothers and sisters.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Jones will be held Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Entombment will be private.

Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons, James Craig "Jimmy" Jones, Jr. ( Rita) of Columbia and John David "Johnny" Jones (Amy) of Lancaster; three daughters, Kay Cauthen (Hazel), Sue J. Cauthen (Chip Maiden), and Nancy J. Strickland (Jesse) all of Lancaster; and five grandchildren, Laura Roberts of Fort Mill, Jesse M. "Trey" Strickland, III, ( Lissette) of Indian Land, Austin Strickland of Los Angeles, CA, Will Jones of Lancaster and Sara Morris (Max) of Anderson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Floride Duncan, Louise Roddey, Wyma Roberts, Connie Carnes, Eugene Sullivan, Lytle Sullivan, and Adrian Sullivan.

Viewing will be at First United Methodist from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the sanctuary. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, January 3rd at the home of Kay and Hazel Cauthen, 1025 Lyndon Drive, Lancaster and also following the service in the social hall of the church.
