Mildred Josey Rogers Obituary

Mildred Kinsey Josey Rogers, 99, of Camden, S. C. passed away on March 28, 2022 at MUSC Health Providence Hospital. Born on September 27, 1922 in Darlington, S. C. she was the daughter of the late Frank S. Kinsey and Clara Parnell Kinsey. She was the first in a family of six daughters. Mildred graduated from St. Johns High School in 1939. After graduation, she worked for two years with McClellan’s Stores and two years in the office of the Darlington County Clerk of Court.

Mildred began work with Farm Security Administration office in Darlington in 1943. She transferred to Dillon County in 1943 and then to Florence County in 1949 where she worked until April 1953. Mildred then returned to work with Farmers Home Administration as County Office Assistant in Camden in 1961, where she worked for 17 years. She was selected to the position of Assistant County Supervisor in Lancaster County in 1978 and transferred to Winnsboro County, where she was promoted to County Supervisor in March of 1980. Mildred was the first County Supervisor in South Carolina who did not have an Agricultural Degree. She continued to work for Farmer’s Home Administration in Darlington County, Lancaster County, and Kershaw County until her retirement in 1987. While with Farmer’s Home Administration Mildred received many awards including two (2) Incentive Awards, and a Certificate of Merit.

Mildred was an active member in the Camden Business & Professional Women’s Club from 1972 until 1984. While a member she served in all offices and chaired all Standing committees. In 1979 she was selected “Career Woman of the Year” and represented the Camden Club in the state competition. Mildred served as District II Director from 1981 until 1983 and was elected State Recording Secretary by the S. C. State Federation of BP&W clubs in 1983. Mildred also served as a Volunteer with MUSC/Kershaw Health for 20 years. She enjoyed her work as a Volunteer as she loved to meet new people.

Mildred was a member of Malvern Hill Baptist Church where she had served as Superintendent of Primary Sunday School Department and later as an adult Sunday school teacher.

Mildred was first married to Wayne C. Josey. In 1987 she married Edwin P. Rogers and lived in Mullins, S. C. until Mr. Rogers’ death, when Mildred returned to her home in Camden.

She is survived by three (3) children: Joyce J. Mickle of Camden, Dwayne W. Josey (Sheila) of Saluda, S. C., and Ricky W. Josey (Angie) of Canon, Georgia; nine (9) grandchildren; Brian J. Mickle, Bradley D. Mickle (Jennifer), Kelli Josey, Kim Felder (Johnny), Warren Josey ( Carley ), Jessica Rodgers, Lindsay Josey, Kate Macias (Cruz), and Scout Josey; 13 great-children; and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mildred was pre-deceased by five sisters; Virginia Pate, Betty White, Edna Hill, Clara Jean Anderson, Frankie Godwin and son-in-law David Mickle.

The family would like to extend their thanks to her caretakers Hattie Broadway, Mary Green and the nurses and staff with the Heart of Hospice of Columbia, S. C.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2 at Malvern Hill Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Reverend Buster Morris officiating. Visitation will be in Victory Hall at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at 4:00 pm in Grove Hill Cemetery, 405 S. Whaley Street, Darlington, S. C.
