Ogden Sutton Obituary

Mr. Ogden Carlyle Sutton, 86, of Pageland, SC passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Charlotte, NC while surrounded by his loving family.

Ogden Sutton was born on May 29, 1935 in Pageland, SC, the son of the late James Lacy and Emma Terry Sutton. He was a member of the Pageland High School Class of 1953, and later graduated from the Dallas Institute of Gupton-Jones Mortuary School in 1954. He returned home and was the owner and operator of Sutton Funeral Home in Pageland, until retiring in May of 2008. He served on the State of South Carolina Funeral Service Board from 1961 to 1964 and was a member of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association and the Pee Dee Funeral Directors for over 50 years, serving as President from 1977 to 1978. In 1973, he organized and constructed Greenlawn Memorial Park. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pageland for over 60 years, where he served as a deacon and was proud to be a charter member and secretary for the Millon Tucker Sunday School Class. Ogden truly had a servant's heart and was very proud to accomplish and be a part of the following: "Citizen of the Year" award in 1998 by the Pageland Chamber of Commerce, a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #58 Masonic Lodge and Jamil Temple, helped in building and organizing White Plains Country Club and later serving as President for many years, serving as organizing president of Hospice of Chesterfield County, serving as President of the Chesterfield County Economic Development Board, where he was instrumental in bringing Conbraco Industries and several others to Pageland, serving as President of the Sandhill Shrine Club and Pageland Jaycees, serving one proud term on the Pageland Town Council and two years as Chesterfield County Coroner. Additionally, he served his community in many other capacities. He is predeceased by his brother, James Lacy "Jimmy" Sutton and sister, Margaret Nicholson.

Ogden is survived by his wife of 60 years, Camille Forte Sutton of Pageland, SC; son, Carlyle Forte (Janan) Sutton of Pageland, SC; daughters, Camille Hammond of Wallace, SC and Pamela (Artie) Allen of Mt. Pleasant, SC; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Mitchell) Wallace, Heather (Mitchell) Small, Amber Sutton, Kyle Sutton, Sutton, Maddox and Bridget Allen, and Emma Sutton; two great-grandchildren, Carter Grace Wallace and Avery Sutton. He is also survived by his sister, Celia Guerry of Lexington, SC and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Baumgartner Funeral Home, 708 W. McGregor St., Pageland, SC from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

There will be a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at First Baptist Church of Pageland, 203 W. Pigg St., Pageland, SC 29728 at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland.
