Moncks Corner, SC

Orby Myers Metts, 96, of Moncks Corner, SC, retired owner and operator of The Fern House, died Tuesday morning at her daughter's residence.

Her funeral will be 3:00 PM Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2013, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will follow in St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery, Pinopolis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 PM this Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. John's Baptist Church, c/o First Baptist Church, 112 E. Main St., Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

Mrs. Metts was born July 22, 1917, in Holly Hill, SC, a daughter of Rev. Rousom Bannister Myers and Helen Hilton Myers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, where she was also a member of the Sarah Lawrence Circle and was a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Metts was a former president of the SC WMU for the Screven Association and a former president of the Home Demonstration Club at Mt. Holly. She was once named Woman of the Year for the Berkeley County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Metts was the widow of Rev. Joe Westley Metts.

Surviving are, two daughters, JoAnn M. King of Woodstock, GA, and Mildred M. "Milly" Mills and her husband, Russell, of Macedonia; a son, William M. "Billy" Metts and his wife, Anne, of Moncks Corner; nine grandchildren, Ruth K. Donahoo, Robin M. Haynes, MaryClaire King, Jasper Mills, Jason Mills, Joe Mills, Beth Buff, Lisa M. Billiott, and Orby M. Cotton; seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
