Stanley "Stan" Hampton Scruggs

Stanley Hampton Scruggs, 88, of Monroe, NC, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was the youngest child of the late Lemuel Hampton Scruggs and Maria Tinsley Scruggs. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Larson Scruggs, and two sisters, Doris Flynn and Marguerite Fullbright.

Stan was born in Brevard, NC, and graduated from Brevard High School. After high school, he attended Brevard College and Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science. He served in the U. S. Army for 2 years. During that time, he lived overseas. He moved to Monroe, NC, in 1965 and owned and operated Harris-Scruggs Funeral Home. In 1977, he sold the funeral home and traveled through North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, selling funeral and cemetery supplies and equipment. In 1994, he became involved in Cemetery Funeral Supply and managed daily operations. The funeral industry had a profound meaning in his life, and he made many lifelong friends until his passing. When Stan was not working, you could find him on the golf course enjoying his favorite hobby.

Stan is survived by his wife Judy Pressley Scruggs, son Stan and his family, Christy, Hampton, Bolton, and Larson, daughter Cindy and her family Jill, Shay Nick and Jeremy, Trica, Tanisha and Amanda, step-son, Phil and his family, Kelly, Madeline Brad and Isla, Isabella and Owen, stepson Ritchie and his family Michelle, Emma and Elizabeth.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Ritch Family Cemetery, 6905 Cunningham Lane, Indian Trail, NC 28079. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
