Timothy "Timmy" Stuhr Obituary

Timmy Stuhr, loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully Monday, June 13, 2022, at the Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant.

Timothy Wrenn Stuhr, 61, was born August 12, 1960, in Charleston SC, the son of William Sanderson Stuhr and Fonda Wrenn Stuhr. His funeral service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt St., Mt. Pleasant at 11:00 am.  Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd.

Timmy came into this world 14 months after his brother Sandy, and together they were the start of a somewhat chaotic but loving household for their parents. His “little” sisters Carol and Catherine were born 2 and 7 years later. Timmy was a life-long resident of Mt. Pleasant and growing up his childhood in Hobcaw Point was one of freedom to swim in the creeks and the yacht club pool, ride bikes through the neighborhood, and generally find mischief wherever he and his brother could.  It would be fair to say The Stuhr boys were somewhat notorious throughout their childhood, teens and beyond. Lots of weekends and holidays were spent with the Stuhr family in a fishing boat and on Beresford Creek at “Shingler.” Timmy was taught to hunt, respect guns, the art of both in-shore and off-shore fishing and a love and respect for the outdoors. Throughout his life, being on the water, and in the sun, was probably where he was happiest.

Timmy graduated from Wando High School and Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. He was the former Secretary of J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. serving as a funeral director in his family’s business for over 35 years.  He was a Charter member of the Goose Creek Rotary Club where he served as Club Secretary. Timmy was a member of the German Friendly Society, the Hibernian Society, Etiwan Masonic Lodge, and of the Hobcaw Yacht Club.

Timmy was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed the camaraderie of being with military veterans; giving of his time and talents volunteering and serving Sunday brunch to the members.

Later in his career, he enjoyed helping families through the cemetery process taking care of the grounds at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Some of his best days were the ones being out-of-doors and working side by side with Robert Frasier, a member of the Stuhr family Timmy loved and had great respect for. All of his Stuhr co-workers could count on Timmy for his varied knowledge of churches and funeral logistics as well as his ability to preside over a funeral effectively while staying in the background and ensuring the decedent and the family were the focus.

On the less serious side, he was known for his days on Lowcountry waters on his wave runner, "Captain Cocktail", his quick wit, entertaining others with his gift of physical comedy, and his bright -sometimes disarming- deep blue eyes. A child of the seventies, he always had some moves, and his music tastes were varied to include disco, reggae, pop, country, and rock and roll. Timmy preferred the informal things in life over the formal and he sought fun and humor in everything as often as he could.

As his family we grieve his passing but feel he is at peace.

Timmy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Pamela N. Stuhr of Mt. Pleasant; father, W. Sandy Stuhr of Sullivan's Island; sons and their families, Josh Stuhr of New Smyrna Beach, FL, grandson Jonathan Henry Stuhr, and Justin Stuhr (Dani) and granddaughter, Lorelai Rachelle Stuhr of Wentzville, MO; stepdaughter, Samantha Norrell of St. Augustine, FL; and his mother-in-law Maria White of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

He also leaves behind his siblings, W. Sandy Stuhr, Jr., (Lynne), of Moncks Corner, Carol Stuhr Kays (Chuck) of Wilmington, NC, and Catherine L. Stuhr of Mt. Pleasant, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Fonda Wrenn Stuhr, his grandparents, father-in-law, and brother-in-law.
